Topic:
The Impact of the Principal on the Academic Achievement in Reading of First-Grade Students with Disabilities within Inclusive Classrooms
You are in charge of leading and evaluating a new program (inclusive classrooms) at your organization. It is time to
put on your problem-solving leadership hat and focus on an issue, policy, or challenge faced by your organization (or a previous organization you worked at, a future organization you would like to work at, or a realistic fictional organization) for which you would like to create a program or implementation strategy to help bring about positive change. You will be in charge of evaluating the program. It is time to put your ideas on paper… or on the computer screen. This assignment will be the foundation upon which all of the remaining Critical Assignments in this course will be based. So choose carefully since you will work on this idea for the entire semester!
Assignment Guidelines
Create a short case study based on the new program for which you will design and build an evaluation plan throughout the semester. Model your case study using the Case Study on the YAP Program on pages 128–130 of your Giancola (2021) textbook as a guide, and provide a supporting narrative and logic model figure. Use the figure on page 130 as your template to follow closely. This assignment will be the foundation upon which all of the remaining Critical Assignments in this course will be based. So choose carefully since you will work on this idea for the entire semester!
Your case study should include the following elements:
Introduction to the topic and assignment
Overview of the identified issue, policy, or challenge that you are focusing on
Brief background of the program/problem
Program long-term goals (minimum of 3)
Program strategies (minimum of 3)
Description of the program theory
Your long-term program goals should be worded as outcome statements and usually begin with an outcome word such as increase, decrease, improve, or reduce.
A narrative explanation of the logic model components and how they relate to each other
Figure (graphic representation) of the logic model, showing strategies, early objectives, intermediate objectives, long-term goals, and contextual factors (see pages 127 and 130 of your textbook for guidance)
You can create a model similar to the one on page 130 or your own. However, you must place the title on the figure, clearly label all parts of the model, and make it legible. Be careful to avoid making the boxes too small and cutting off text. Consider using color coding or different shapes for boxes to help understand your thinking. It should fit on one page.
Length: Minimum of four pages for the narrative + one page for the Logic Model Framework. Total pages = 5 pages
You do not need to include a comprehensive literature review for the background of your selected evaluation program. If you have article references that you know fit well, you can add them. If you are selecting a program that you do not have much research on previously, you can either do a quick research search or rely on your professional experiences and broad content knowledge of the issue/challenge.
Additional Tips
You could use your DiP topic and tailor it to this course. Students have turned this assignment into their DiP, so keep that in mind.
You should choose to design and evaluate a new program—something that has not been done before.
Your topic should address a challenge or policy that you feel needs improvement in some way.
Review the rubric for further guidance. Your case study should include the following elements:
