1. What parts of her story stood out the most to you?
The parts of her story that stood out to me were her incredible achievements that she reached.. For example, when she interned at the White House, studied abroad in Spain, backpacked through Europe on her crutches, got married and had a daughter, and earned an MBA all before she turned 28 years old. In addition, another achievement that stood out to me was being the first female wheelchair athlete to complete the Ironman World Championship. These stood out to me because it involves a lot of time to be independent and strong which are characteristics which I wish I had more of.
2. What were her life challenges before her race?
Before her race, she mentioned struggling with her disability, being embarrassed by her braces, and feeling like she didn’t fit in. In other words, it was learning how to live with paralysis from Polio and wanting to conquer her disease.

Based on the video, my understanding of an Ironman is “achieving a dream” against all odds. In other words, it is about conquering something that, to myself, has always seemed out of reach. To me, my Ironman is to someday be able to retire my parents.
4. Why did you pick that particular item for your life?
I picked this particular item because when I think about where I am today, who I am, and why I was able to achieve everything that I have done – it all comes back to my parents. I think about them immigrating to the United States and getting their masters while working and taking care of three kids. I think about the hardships they must have gone through and the opportunities they have missed out on for travel, hobbies, or work. I appreciate everything they have done for me, and I want to be able to say thank you by retiring them, paying off their house, and their debts so that they have the freedom to explore the world more or relax to their heart’s content.
5.When do you imagine you might find the time, focus and dedication to complete the work of your decision?
I would say that this goal has been a decision of mine for the past 3 years. So since I began thinking about it three years ago, not only am I focusing on my education and financial situation, but I am also taking into account how my actions now are currently helping me complete this goal. In other words, the time, focus, and dedication to complete this goal is now. It is in every action that I do and ironically, I know that my parents will continue helping me emotionally through this goal even if they don’t know it exists for their benefit.
