Critical Reflection/Response: Beyond Binaries

Background:
In the first page of this Module, M6: Background – Sexes & Genders and on the page, Transcending the Binary, you read about the differences between sex and gender, as well as about the continuum of sexes and genders in American culture and society. Critically reflect on the cultural domain of gendered identities by grounding your understanding of sexes and genders in biology and culture, respectively. Then, respond to a recent movement toward gender inclusivity in the United States and the challenges members of those groups can and do face. Make sure to incorporate appropriate terminology from M6: The Basics: A Refresher .
Goals:
1. demonstrate your understanding of the Module 6 theme “Sex, Gender and Sexuality” – up to 5 points
2. incorporate an anthropological perspective and effectively utilize appropriate terms and concepts – up to 10pts
3. be informed by at least two (2) elements of Module 6 (for example, the Module readings, the linked articles, film clips, the myriad websites and and related articles) which are clearly referenced in the content of your submission – up to 10pts
4. think critically about and mention specifically how those two (2) elements inspired your thinking about what it means to be American – in other words, talk about “Sex, Gender and Sexuality” and tell us how what you read influenced that thinking – up to 10pts
5. be written in clear and concise language, free of grammatical issues, stay within the word limit – up to 10 pts
