This is an Abnormal Psychology class and this is a Case Study Project which is broke down into 2 or 3
seperate assignments. This is the first assignment. The following is an overview of what needs to be
done on the entire project and the outcomes of the final case study project submission:
Overview
This project simulates the process a mental health provider might go through in case supervision or
consultation, in order to research and find the answers for the following questions based on the
diagnosis you determine for the fictional character you chose:
1. the pertinent details of a client’s social history
2. the onset and symptoms of the identified problem
3. the proposed diagnosis
4. the features of a client’s internal, social, and environmental strengths as well as challenges or
weaknesses
5. the proposed course of intervention
The first step in completing the Case Study Project is to choose a fictional movie, television, or book
character from any movie, show, or book of your choice. You will use this movie, television, or book
character as a fictional client who has sought your professional help for outpatient therapy. You will be
presenting this client for review in a mock clinical supervision/consultation session where your fellow
classmates are your professional colleagues. The more interesting the character, the more interesting
the project will be for both you and your classmates.
The final outcomes should be as follows:
1. Identify and differentiate the classification of psychological disorders
2. Evaluate treatment approaches
So this first assignment is just finding the fictional characternthat will be used for the entire project from a fictional movie, television, or book character from any movie, show, or book of your choice and writing a 325 word summary of character chosen by answering the following questions:
1. describe the movie, television, or book character you will be focusing on for the Case Study Project
2. Write a brief synopsis of the movie, television show, or book that the character chosen for project
came from.
3. describe some of the character’s traits and behaviors of chosen character
4. Explain why this chosen character might make for a good case study
5. indicate the preliminary diagnoses you plan to investigate while assessing the chosen character
Finally, the character that is chosen must have a specific DSM-5 Disorder diagnosis, and not an entire
general category of disorders, such as eating, substance, or personality disorders.
Last thing is there are a few movies the Professor doesn’t want us to chose characters from as per the
following statement from the Professor:
Please do not choose Girl, Interrupted ,Fight Club, Split, or a Beautiful Mind for this project or any other
film where a disorder is overdramaticized and/or the diagnosis provided in the film is not accurate based upon current diagnostic and treatment standards. For example, most films presenting Dissociative
